365 Days of Poetry: Day One-Hundred and Fifty-One

“In this City/
self-preservation/
is a full-time occupation.”

affirmation.
this is where I should be.
with my oldest friends.
with my family.

there are two missing.
though one is coming down.
a week is not too long.
the whole summer will bring me down.

brother, come to visit.
there is no one closer to me.
I know you love the City.
but sometimes you need to break free.

“I want to break free.”
