365 Days of Poetry: Day Sixty-One

To an old friend I am still blissfully not in contact with:

Hard

Knitting the truth together is hard.
You have to consult all sources of opinion,
take them with a grain of salt,
then piece together the ones that make sense.

Having a family is hard.
You have to consult all sources of opinion,
try not to scream when you don’t agree,
and make the decision that is best for everyone.

Walking away from someone is hard.
You have to realize that they lie,
see through manipulations,
and come to terms with being used.

Though you still deserve my pity,
I will not let a toxic, self-serving, sloth,
with insurmountable delusions,
affect my life, anymore.
